I just watched Cave of Forgotten Dreams directed by Werner Herzog. The film follows an excavation team of scientists, archaeologists and art historians and discusses their research within Chauvet cave, which was discovered only in the 1990's. It's an interesting film, which reminds me of the question: why do humans create art?
Here is a trailer for the film, if you have a netflix account you can watch the entire documentary there.
