We talked about Gerhard Richter a few weeks ago and mentioned how he was kind of hard to define and hard place into any artistic category because he is experimental and creates pieces that are unique and disconnected from his other pieces. I liked that he was a little bit all over the place because I feel like that sometimes and I also like how he experiments with mixed media. He has a great website with a lot of work on it. The most interesting works I found, which we didn't mention in class, are of these painted rural landscape photos. I like how Richter creates an abstraction of the landscape and turns a possibly mundane or forgotten photo into an other-worldly and colorful place.
